As the globe pivoted into a new not normal normal, for the past three years, as the Covid virus became one of the highest global stressors, my focal point in art and creativity became one of restoration, rejuvenation, and deeply diving into visions of everyday life, with full appreciation.
Losing our dog of 17 years in 2021, left a lonesome sibling dog, Heidi, without a playmate. We went to the Los Angeles Shelter, and adopted GEORG. Georg inspired illustrations, reflections, and writings, that addressed everyday life, with a frivolity and sense of humor. Humor was, and is, much needed during any time of heightened stress.
With the production of three books, and another one on it’s way, the value of creating, in terms of overall health outcomes became clear. Creativity offers reflective thought, as worry is suspended. As a result, an outcome of this passion for restorative creativity, came the creation of a creative retreat, where I guided others through the process of painting and creating art, while suspending judgement, and instead accessing the inner calm of creating art. I utilized watercolors and hungi paper to create free form art, which was and is a restorative experience.
With a long standing history as an artist, painting fine art, oil on canvas, utilizing the classic glaze technique, Pauzzz was born. During the pandemic, spending hours and days, glazing one paw hair upon another, came the most recent collection of Pauzzzz. This theme ties into my other body of work, where anatomy and form, both animal and human, as a means of expressing internal states is key.
Once again, closely related to prior works like, Diving Up, Looking Up, I have expanded a diverse variety of inter species communications, through art, that can help us during this ongoing peculiar time of humankind. My paintings communicate a collective agreement, of reliance on one another, cross cultural, global, cross species, to bring peace, harmony, realistic hope for the now and the generations to come.
Scroll though this body of works. Give a look at Romeo the Frog, the Bolivian Orange Bellied Frog that was nearly extinct, but had many conservationists trying to save his particular species.
Give a look at: THEMED ART SERIES, GOLDEN SWIMMERS, DO THEY WANT LIGHT, FROGS PROTECTING
